Andrey Vorobyev

InDev Solutions is a company of a mixed type, combining in-house product development and custom development. Therefore, It is expected that QA specialists have a wide range of knowledge in different areas of testing: frontend, backend, as well as basic knowledge of automated testing.
At interviews we do not seek to “overwhelm” the candidate with memorized definitions from textbooks. It is obvious that any information on testing issues can be found, for example, in Google, but it is more important to understand the essence of the process. We won't ask what functional testing is, but offer to describe how the candidate will test a site or a part of it. Instead of asking about status codes, we will give a particular situation with a bug to see how a specialist will act. Finding a bug is not a problem. It is important for us that a beginner in testing strives to analyze the bug and improve his skills.
Soft skills are equally important:
Teamwork: ability to work in a team, interact effectively with developers, business analysts, and other participants.
Communication skills: ability to clearly and understandably convey information about defects, explain technical problems to non-technical specialists.
Analytical skills: attention to details, ability to analyze requirements, and identify discrepancies.
During the interview, I pay attention to person's speach, how he expresses his thoughts, whether he asks questions and how he perceives criticism.
In conclusion, I would like to note several key qualities of Junior QA at InDev Solutions:
Hard skills: understanding of API, client-server architecture, databases, general approaches to testing.
Soft skills: ability to explain thoughts, ask questions, accept criticism, as well as goodwill.
Develop yourself, believe in yourself, and you will succeed!
